Having a place where you feel at home left a lasting impression with foster youth Tianna. Kasha, a foster parent, still remembers the nine months Tianna lived with her daughters before returning home to her family.   “Tianna was the first teenager I ever fostered and with all teenagers its about talking to them about choices.  Tianna still returns every holiday for a visit after 11 years and she even named her first baby after me,” said Kasha.

Foster Care
We care for 520 foster children every day by actively recruit, support, train and license compassionate foster families. Each foster child receives individualized care and support. As a part of our understanding of trauma and the impact it has on kids, we provide foster parents with pre-placement training, a set of core trainings and on-going training so that they are well equipped to provide a nurturing environment to spark change.  We also provide additional support through an assigned foster care recruiter to help with the licensing process, foster care specialist when you receive placement, 24-hour on-call support and access to a network of foster parents who can relate to any questions.

Child Specific Adoption Recruitment
Our agency is dedicated to helping foster children find an adoptive resource through a dedicated child specific recruiter courtesy of the David Thomas Foundation's Wendy's Wonderful Kids grant. As a grant recipient, our Wendy's Wonderful Kids recruiter work on caseloads of children the system has forgotten, ensuring they have the time and resources to give each child as much attention as he or she deserves. These recruiters employ aggressive practices and proven tactics focused on finding the best home for a child. Staff start with familiar circles of family, friends and neighbors while reaching out to the communities in which they live. http://www.davethomasfoundation.org/

Residential Treatment
Youth on our residential campus come to the Dodge City campus because they are a harm to themselves or others. At first it is hard for the youth to transition to campus life, however, once they start participating in the campus equine or canine therapy programs we start to see kids open up.  Our campus receives calls from past alumni sharing their stories with us on how staff changed their lives.  In fact, hundreds of children diagnosed with various disorders have found hope in our 24-hour psychiatric residential treatment facility and Youth Residential Center II. Our therapeutic approach encourages trust and the nurtures relationships. We have many different therapeutic modalities that we utilize including equine therapy, canine therapy, group therapy and one-on-one therapy. A service unique of our facility is our continued care program, which allows a therapist to provide support once the youth returns to their community.

Secure Care
Our staff care about the girls in this program by creating partnerships with other organizations including dental services, vision care and overall health. Plus staff work with Wichita State University's Gear Up program to bring summer programs to the campus focused on educational options once they leave the program.  Our goal is to increase problem-solving abilities, teach them to build healthy relationships and improve their social, educational and daily living skills in a home-like setting.  We continually have a waiting list for this program because of its success and  the need for a secure facility for girls age 10-18 who have chronic runaway behaviors and have been adjudicated by the courts as "Children in need of Care."
